The Fuel of Athens

The Front Room is one of the best known coffee shops in Athens. This is due to its location in the Baker student center, and the fact students can use their flex points to get coffee. (Flex points are a part of some meal plans offered by Ohio University that can be used in place of cash.) The atmosphere in the Front Room is a warm collegiate feeling with a touch of the nonstop movement of the campus. The shop itself is filled with warm colors and art hanging from the wood paneled walls. The art appears to be made by younger individuals and gives a sense of community. There is a stage in the middle of the room, with a fireplace behind it that is outlined in stone, surrounded with couches and tables so different artist can perform on Friday nights in front of a live audience. This coffee shop allows individuals do display there talents and express themselves. It offers a free source of entertainment which is always appealing to poor college students. The design of this shop was created to attract students and has accomplished that. The majority of the customers are college students who go to study or to socialize while enjoying some Starbucks coffee. Even though the coffee is not a local specialty, it still attracts people due to the popularity of the brand. Costumers are also attracted to The Front Room due to the atmosphere and the subtle background noise which makes it an excellent place to study for those who do not like to work in absolute silence. Most of these students make use of the offered free WiFi and bring their laptops to work on. This coffee shop gives Athens a place where students can come to work or relax with people of their same age and individuals who have similar goals and ambitions. This one coffee shop can give you a sense of how the Athens community around Ohio University is. Athens is very much a coffee shop town filled with young, ambitious students who are friendly and welcoming.
