Ohio University Fests

Ohio University made the headlines two weeks ago when people learned of the events at Palmer Fest. This past weekend was Oak Fest and Mill Fest and it had authorities worried. Despite some people starting at 9AM, the fests caused much less destruction than Palmer Fest. Authorities credit this to how much more spread out Mill Fest is than Palmer Fest. And even Oak Fest is not as big as Palmer Fest despite being as constricted as Palmer Fest. The entire weekend arrested fifty-one people; thirteen on Oak Fest and thirty-eight on Mill. Despite all the party-goers that were out, police were pretty satisfied with how the event took place.

I hope that the fests can continue to run as smoothly as this last one. Despite there being several arrests, no  single, outrageous event ruined it for everyone. No house caught fire and no one was forced to shut it down. If people are able to continue this mindset, Ohio University may be able to live this party reputation down and people may finally see it as the successful and educational institution it really is.

19682199.jpgMany outsiders also fail to see that a majority of the people who are arrested are those not from Ohio University. Many of these students from other universities feel that because it is Ohio University and it has such a 'party school' reputation, they feel as though they have to drink as much as they can in order to fit. This excessive drinking is what leads to these problems and these increased amount of arrests you see. If people were to do their homework, they would see this issue. Ohio University is more than just a party school, and those that go here know that.
